Description of Significance THE EDWARDS-HARDAWAY HOMESTEAD AND CEMETERY IS SIGNIFICANT FOR ITS ASSOCIATION WITH ETHNIC HISTORY: NATIVE AMERICAN AND COMMERCE. AS A PROMINENT FAMILY WITHIN THE CHOCTAW NATION, THIS LOCATION IS A MONUMENT TO THE ETHNIC AND COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF INDIAN TERRITORY DURING THE MID-TO-LATE NINETEENTH CENTURY. ADDITIONALLY, IT IS THE ONLY EXTANT BUILDING ASSOCIATED WITH THE BUTTERFIELD OVERLAND MAIL STAGE ROUTE.
